Ingredients

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni

  • 2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 3 cups milk

  • 1/4 cup butter

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)



Preparation

Step 1

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add macaroni and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.


Step 2

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until it forms a smooth paste.


Step 3

Slowly whisk in the milk. Cook, whisking constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.


Step 4

Stir in Cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese. Mix until melted and smooth. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder if using.


Step 5

Add cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until fully coated. Cook for 2–3 minutes until heated through.Sprinkle with extra paprika or cheese if desire


Step 6

Bake uncovered on 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes until browned on top.
