Candied Yams

About the Recipe

Ingredients

4 large sweet potatoes (peeled and sliced)

1 cup light brown sugar

1/2 cup butter

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract



Preparation

  1. Layer the yams in a baking dish

  2. In a saucepan, add butter, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Simmer until the butter is melted, mix well.

  3. Evenly pour the sauce over the yams. Bake covered at 375°F for 40 minutes. Remove from the oven, baste the yams with sauce, and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes until caramelized.

  4. Sprinkle marshmallows on top, bake another 5 minutes until marshmellows are browned. (optional)
